What This Actually Is

Metallica's members founded All Within My Hands (AWMH) in 2017. Its flagship program, the Metallica Scholars Initiative, funds career and technical education directly at community colleges, no strings, no branding requirements, just real money going toward real training. It launched in 2019 with 10 schools and $1 million. In 2026, its eighth year, the program has grown to 93 community colleges across all 50 states plus Guam, with a new $250,000 expansion into the UK, and roughly 15,000 students supported total.

The Real Reason

Why It's Not Just a Music Story

James Hetfield has been direct about the reason: he wanted to help "break the stigma of trade skills." The corporate partner list backs that up with real money, Carhartt, Wolverine, CNH, the Lowe's Foundation, and as of 2026, ServiceTitan, a company deeply embedded in how modern trade businesses actually run. This is a coalition of people who build things and people who fund the building of things, putting real weight behind exactly the message this whole site is built around.
